Fonseranes locks
Plan of the nine locks at Fonseranes at Béziers on the Midi Canal
Actually only six of the locks are functional, after which you are diverted (in the old seventh) across the River Orb via the Pont Canal (which the “British Sunday Times” newspaper once described as “a Roman aqueduct”!) to the double depth lock which lowers you into the port of Béziers. The eighth and ninth locks (although unusable) can still be seen on the original route of the canal, they lowered you into the River Orb and you rejoined the Midi Canal just below the port of Béziers.
